When should I say no?
- 29 July, 2022
Do you sometimes feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day?
Do you find yourself saying yes to things you don’t want because it would be good for your work, friends, family or just something that seems important at the time?
Boundaries are essential to prioritizing what is most important to us taking care of ourselves. Saying no is one of the best things that we can do in order to set limits for ourselves.
Boundaries help us say no when we need to, so we can say yes to the things we really want. But why is it in the first place that we say yes to things that we really don’t want to?
Extending yourself in order to help people that you care about, is a completely natural reaction. We are conditioned to look out for one another and some people even take pride in it. But there comes a point, where the give and take can get out of balance.
Boundaries are about taking care of ourselves.
Boundaries help us prioritize what is most important to us and help move our lives forward in the direction we want them to go.
When you cannot feel yourself and your needs, you cannot necessarily understand the consequences of your decisions.
Saying no may seem like the easy solution at the moment, but it will come back to haunt you when you’ve exhausted yourself for the sake of someone else’s comfort.
A boundary is about taking care of yourself and setting guidelines for what you want out of your life, your relationships and your commitments.
Boundaries allow us the respect that we deserve as human beings
It’s time to say yes to things, feel proud of ourselves. To feel proud of the work that we continually do ind order to be the best person we can be. Especially for ourselves.
Boundaries are about being in charge of your life. They make sure that life goes in the direction you want instead of you floating through life without any focus or purpose.
So the next time you’re invited to go out, take a moment to think about your future self.
Will this event will give me energy and enthusiasm, or will it drain me?
